Basketball Recap: Shawnee Mission Christian Takes a Loss

Shawnee Mission Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Heritage Christian Eagles. The Mustangs were down 52-32 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Shawnee Mission Christian lost, don't look at Ben McClure. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. McClure is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Owen Erwin, who posted 11 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Shawnee Mission Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Shawnee Mission Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Heritage Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Shawnee Mission Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-25 victory against New Hope Christian on the 24th. As for Heritage Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-48 loss against Whitefield Academy on the 23rd.
