The team relied heavily on Reed Ross, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Phoenix Country Day's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Logan Rose was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Arizona Lutheran Academy waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 16-1 victory. Considering the Coyotes have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Rafael Guerrero made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Colton Pennington was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Owen Beilke also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Arizona Lutheran Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Phoenix Country Day, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Phoenix Country Day has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Arizona Lutheran Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Phoenix Country Day might still be hurting after the 15-9 loss they got from Arizona Lutheran Academy in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
