Inglewood has gone a perfect 5-0 against Leuzinger recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Sentinels will look to defend their home field against the Olympians at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Inglewood has played have been within three points, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Inglewood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They pulled ahead with a 43-42 photo finish over Midland on Thursday. Things were looking grim for the Sentinels in the second quarter (they were down by 20) but they stormed back to get the contest.
Semaj Welch continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 167 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Allen Wilson was another key player, picking up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Inglewood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, Leuzinger was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Hawthorne 61-6. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Olympians' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Cougars are ranked 749th).
Inglewood better focus on containing Russell Sekona and Kelton Strickland as the pair were huge in Leuzinger's win. Sekona threw for 170 yards and four TDs on perfect 6-for-6 passing, while Strickland rushed for 87 yards and one score. The dominant performance also gave Sekona a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Jamaal Fay was in the mix as well, providing Leuzinger with one touchdown.
Leuzinger didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Sinamone Hola, Braylin Spencer, and Pakipole Moala picked up one apiece. Moala got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Leuzinger's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Inglewood, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Inglewood has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 408.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Leuzinger struggles in that department as they've been averaging 365 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Inglewood didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Leuzinger in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 34-29 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Olympians' Journee Tonga, who rushed for 162 yards and one score while picking up 7.0 yards per carry, and also picked up 95 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Sentinels still be able to contain Tonga? There's only one way to find out.
