This season hasn't been kind to the Esparto Spartans, who are still winless after their 15th game. They were beaten by Rio Vista 71-35 on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Esparto in their matchups with Rio Vista: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Esparto still got an impressive performance from Antonio Seastrunk Jr., who scored 20 points. The matchup was Seastrunk Jr.'s third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Contreras, who scored four points.
Ashlynd Rhett was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Rio Vista. The match was Rhett's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was John Peterson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Esparto's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-15. As for Rio Vista, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Esparto will take on San Juan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. San Juan comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Rio Vista, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Vacaville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th.
