Lexington hasn't had much luck against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Minutemen will welcome the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lexington had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday. The Minutemen blew past the Cyclones 13-3. The Minutemen haven't had any issues with the Cyclones recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Kayden Knight made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Lexington is undefeated when Knight posts three or more RBI, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Jack Miller looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

Back at the plate, Blaine Friedmansky was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two triples. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braeden Barber, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Lexington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley got the win against Heyworth on Monday by a conclusive 14-4.
Like Lexington, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley also got a great game from a two-way player: Brayden Elliott. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Elliott was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, David Hull was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Graydon Leonard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lexington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lexington beat Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 5-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Minutemen repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
