The Morro Bay Pirates will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Stone Ridge Christian Knights at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Morro Bay has not done well against Lompoc recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Morro Bay had just enough and edged Lompoc out 49-47. The victory was just what Morro Bay needed coming off of a 73-24 loss in their prior match.
Morro Bay had a senior duo take command as Sergio Mendoza scored 16 points along with three steals and Justin Campbell scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Mendoza continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Martinez, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Stone Ridge Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Denair by a score of 80-69. The score was all tied up 30-30 at the break, but Stone Ridge Christian was the better team in the second half.
Stone Ridge Christian can attribute much of their success to Daijon O?neil, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, and Kassius Salazar, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The contest was O?neil's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Owen Nelson, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
The victory got Morro Bay back to even at 4-4. As for Stone Ridge Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Morro Bay hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.7 points per game. However, it's not like Stone Ridge Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 61 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
