The Montgomery Vikings lost against the Rancho Cotate Cougars back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Montgomery took a serious blow against Rancho Cotate, falling 56-6. It was the first time this season that Montgomery let down their fans at home.
Montgomery's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Emasi Rabukawaqa, who gained 130 total yards.
Rancho Cotate's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Geovanny Ortiz, who rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Ortiz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards. Another player making a difference was Gio Martinez, who rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Montgomery now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Rancho Cotate, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montgomery will square off against Analy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rancho Cotate, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Rosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Rosa comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
