The Cardinal Ritter College Prep Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They lost to East St. Louis at home by a decisive 68-50 margin. Cardinal Ritter College Prep was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East St. Louis apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Taylor Powell was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 14 rebounds for East St. Louis. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Powell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Robert McCline, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Cardinal Ritter College Prep has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for East St. Louis, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-6.
Cardinal Ritter College Prep won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Francis Borgia at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. St. Francis Borgia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Cardinal Ritter College Prep likes a good challenge. East St. Louis' road trip will continue as they head out to face Carbondale at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Carbondale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 258th, while East St. Louis is ranked 41st).
