The Animas Panthers had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 34-28 victory over Quemado on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Animas also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.
Sofia Martinez was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season.
Animas' win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Quemado, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Animas will take on Mesilla Valley Christian School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Animas is ranked 73rd, while Mesilla Valley Christian School is ranked 82nd). As for Quemado, they will head out on the road to face off against Magdalena at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Magdalena will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Quemado surely won't give up without a fight.
