Basketball Recap: Marriotts Ridge's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

After a string of five wins, Marriotts Ridge's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to the Howard Lions 73-69. Marriotts Ridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Howard apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Marriotts Ridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Aaron Hammann, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds, and Restia Whitaker, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Hammann is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. Sam Tatarov was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Marriotts Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Griffin Garner was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds for Howard. The game was Garner's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Ademiju, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Marriotts Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Howard, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Marriotts Ridge will square off against Centennial at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centennial has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Howard, they will take on Westminster at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Howard is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.3 points per game this season.
