Seymour hasn't had much luck against Cocke County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Seymour Eagles will be playing at home against the Cocke County Fighting Cocks at 6:00 p.m. Seymour has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Things were looking good for Seymour after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Knoxville Central.
Landry Terry made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Ella Rainbolt also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Cocke County put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Grainger as Cocke County made off with a 19-7 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Fighting Cocks have posted against the Grizzlies since March 14, 2023.
Ellie Proffitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Proffitt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Cocke County got a massive performance out of Adisen Mcnealy, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Mcnealy has posted since back in April of 2024. Meredith Grooms was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Cocke County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive contests.
Cocke County pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Seymour, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Seymour hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Cocke County struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seymour suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Cocke County when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will Seymour have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
