The Orange Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. Their tough 71-45 defeat to Caldwell Academy might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Orange can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Caldwell Academy is ranked 45th).
Ryan Honeycutt and Freddy Sneed certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Honeycutt scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds, while Sneed scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds. Honeycutt scored a full 28.9% of Orange's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mason Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Orange's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Caldwell Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Orange will head out on the road to face off against Southern Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caldwell Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Greensboro Day School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greensboro Day School has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three games.
