The Ovid-Elsie Marauders will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Standish-Sterling Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Standish-Sterling took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Ovid-Elsie, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Ovid-Elsie on the road against Mt. Morris as the squad secured a 34-6 win. The result was nothing new for Ovid-Elsie, who have now won four games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Clayton Fruchey and Tryce Tokar were among the main playmakers for Ovid-Elsie as the former rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries and the latter rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Meanwhile, Standish-Sterling fell victim to Ogemaw Heights' stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Falcons 28-0. Having soared to a lofty 50 points in the game before, Standish-Sterling couldn't push the score so high this time.
Ovid-Elsie's victory on Thursday bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Standish-Sterling, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Ovid-Elsie has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Standish-Sterling struggles in that department as they've been even better at 287.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
