Basketball Recap: Ninilchik Drops Season-High Score on Tok

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ninilchik). They blew past Tok 92-68 on Thursday. Ninilchik hasn't had any issues with Tok recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Leading Ninilchik to victory were Max Russell and Kade McCorison. Russell shot 8-for-14 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 32 points and 15 rebounds, while McCorison dropped a triple-double with 27 points, 11 boards, and ten assists. McCorison's evening made it 23 games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Gabe Kerrone also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Ninilchik was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matches.

Tok's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chairo Espinosa, who almost dropped a triple-double with 14 points, nine assists, and nine steals. Espinosa is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marvin Captain, who posted 21 points along with six boards and five steals.

Ninilchik pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.8 points over those games. As for Tok, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Ninilchik wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-38 victory against Nikiski on the 14th. As for Tok, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-32 loss against Unalaska on the 14th.
