There's no place like home for the Chico Panthers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Red Bluff on Thursday as Chico made off with a 67-41 victory. Given Chico's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Red Bluff is ranked 808th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Magnus Nielsen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Adam Brott, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marcos Torres, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Leaf, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Red Bluff struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chico racked up 12 assists.
Chico's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Red Bluff, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chico will take on Foothill at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Foothill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday. As for Red Bluff, they will be playing at home against Enterprise at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Enterprise focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
