Block Island's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a 33-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Providence Country Day. Block Island has not had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Block Island's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bailey Payne, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Julianna Jaramilo who scored six points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Payne grabbed two or more steals.
Block Island dropped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Providence Country Day, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-7.
Block Island will head out on the road to challenge the PRIDE at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Rhode Island (Blackstone Valley Prep is ranked 38th, while the are ranked 44th). As for Providence Country Day, they will be playing at home against the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Davies Career & Tech's defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them.
