Canyon Hills extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-12-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Clairemont Chieftains. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rattlers have suffered since April 17, 2025.
Lexi Harrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Karalyne Tabada made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ariah Washington, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.
As for Clairemont, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs across that stretch.
On Clairemont's side, Deveraux Benjamin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Benjamin has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Alexis Benjamin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Gen Lawriw was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Canyon Hills will square off against rival Mira Mesa at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Clairemont is set to face off against their familiar foe Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
