The Duncan Wildkats are taking a road trip to take on the Palo Verde Titans at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Duncan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Duncan is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since April 4, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Baboquivari 11-9. The Wildkats haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Isaac Harris made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.
Harris wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI Hernandez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another was Dayton Penry, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
While Palo Verde didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past San Miguel 11-1 on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Titans as they're now sitting on three straight.
Like Duncan, Palo Verde also got a great game from a two-way player: David Burgoyne. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Burgoyne was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Christian Felix was incredible, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Noah Pedrego was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Palo Verde pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Duncan, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Duncan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Palo Verde struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
