The Winters Mill Falcons will challenge the Westminster Owls at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Winters Mill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Winters Mill came up short against Century and fell 6-3. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Briana Collins put in work no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Collins was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Natalie Furr made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Westminster won against Liberty on Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Owls put the hurt on Century with a sharp 14-8 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Owls.
Lila Moxley was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Ward, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Westminster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Winters Mill's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Westminster, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-8.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winters Mill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Westminster struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Winters Mill took their win against Westminster in their previous matchup last Thursday by a conclusive 16-5 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Owls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
