The Southwest Roughriders suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Saturday. They suffered a tough 55-30 defeat at the hands of Cambridge. While losing is never fun, Southwest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Cambridge is ranked 107th).
Several Roughriders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Houston Billeter, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. Trenton Williams was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Southwest struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cambridge pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Cambridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Trompke, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Brohdey Wood, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Southwest has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Cambridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Southwest will square off against Medicine Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Medicine Valley is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Cambridge, they will square off against Arapahoe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Arapahoe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday.
