Softball Recap: Willcox Has No Trouble Against Bisbee

Willcox came out on top against Bisbee on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run first inning. The Cowboys put the hurt on the Pumas with a sharp 18-2 win. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Hattie Macumber made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Willcox let Jaqueline Ramirez and Karlie St. Clair run wild. Ramirez went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while St. Clair went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave St. Clair a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Iza Pando, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Willcox always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bisbee only posted an OBP of .250.

Willcox has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bisbee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willcox will venture away from home to take on Safford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bisbee, they will head out to challenge Valley Union at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
