Softball Game Preview: Pocatello Thunder vs. Century Diamondbacks

For the second straight game, Pocatello will face off against Century. The Thunder will be playing in front of their home fans against the Diamondbacks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pocatello has ten straight wins, Century has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Pocatello beats Century with 15 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Thunder blew past the Diamondbacks 15-3 on Wednesday. Considering the Thunder have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Pocatello let Jakobi Nebeker and Oakley Hirschi run wild. Nebeker fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-5, while Hirschi went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two home runs gave Nebeker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Ward, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pocatello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.

Pocatello pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Century, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pocatello has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Century struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
