Emmy Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Elise Coleman was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Fiedler, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Floyd Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bloomington South made easy work of Brown County on Thursday and carried off an 8-2 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Brilee McGlothlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Akasha Burton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Abby Purtlebaugh was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Floyd Central's victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Bloomington South, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floyd Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Bloomington South struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
