Softball Recap: Weslaco East's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Weslaco East had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They blew past the Rivera Raiders 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Aubrey Zuniga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Jessica Salazar was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Angelica Herrera, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Weslaco East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Weslaco East pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Rivera, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Looking ahead, Weslaco East will look to defend their home field on Friday against Pace at 7:00 p.m. Weslaco East's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Pace's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Rivera, they will challenge Harlingen South at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rivera has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
