The Palatine Pirates will face off against the Glenbrook South Titans at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Palatine comes in on four and Glenbrook South on three.
On Saturday, Palatine made easy work of Niles West and carried off a 10-4 victory. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly six runs.
Peter Mulhern made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other pitching news, Palatine got a great performance from Brandon Ziebell as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Ziebell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jett Greiwe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Monroe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Glenbrook South owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They came out on top against Grayslake Central by a score of 5-0.
Blake Hoffer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Glenbrook South's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 13-18 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Trey Ryno was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Michael Eschenbach, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Palatine pushed their record up to 25-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Glenbrook South, their win bumped their record up to 15-19.
Palatine might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from Glenbrook South in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
