The Wheatmore Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 14th straight loss. They took a 57-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oak Grove. While losing is never fun, Wheatmore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 577th, while Oak Grove is ranked 236th).
Despite the loss, Wheatmore still got an impressive performance from Parker Kines, who scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was Weston Driggers, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Loucas Shoaf, who scored 19 points for Oak Grove. Shoaf has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. JB Shabazz was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Wheatmore bumped their record down to 1-14 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Oak Grove, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Wheatmore will look to defend their home court on Friday against Southwestern Randolph at 7:30 p.m. Southwestern Randolph has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Oak Grove, they will head out on the road to square off against Central Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
