Softball Recap: Scranton Wins Going Away Against West Side

Scranton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt West Side on Tuesday. The Rockets blew past the Eagles 12-6. Considering the Rockets have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brecken Mainer (2028) made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Scranton let Addie Layes (2026) and DeLaney Mainer (2026) run wild. Layes (2026) went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Mainer (2026) scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Mainer (2026) has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emey Pierce (2028), who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Scranton pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for West Side, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.

Coming up, Scranton will host Magazine at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Side, they will venture away from home to face off against Calico Rock at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
