It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Windward Wildcats can now relate to. They fell just short of Santa Clara by a score of 26-23.
Santa Clara's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jason Valenzuela led the charge by throwing for 233 yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Julian Espinoza was another key contributor, gaining 103 total yards and two touchdowns.
Santa Clara's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut JD Pettit.
Windward's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Santa Clara, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4.
Windward does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Santa Clara will head out on the road to face off against California School for the Deaf-Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. California School for the Deaf-Riverside will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
