The Toll Gate Titans will venture away from home to challenge the Ponaganset Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Toll Gate turned things around against Mt. Hope on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Huskies a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Titans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Meanwhile, Ponaganset faced North Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Chieftains put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 18-0 win. The Chieftains have beaten the Cougars the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.
Mattea Mello looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cora Miller was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Duncan, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Ponaganset always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Toll Gate's record now sits at 6-7. As for Ponaganset, their record is now 6-10.
Toll Gate came up short against Ponaganset when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 8-4. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
