Ridgway has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Nucla Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridgway has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Ridgway scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They put the hurt on Dolores with a sharp 55-32 victory.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ridgway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophia Scranton, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and five steals. Scranton is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Miller, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Nucla's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 52-35 bruising from Dove Creek. That's two games in a row now that Nucla has lost by exactly 17 points.
Despite their defeat, Nucla saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lantry Galley, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Kendra McCluer, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Ridgway now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Nucla, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Ridgway have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Nucla, though, as they've been averaging only 27.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ridgway might still be hurting after the 49-29 defeat they got from Nucla in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ridgway was down 34-9.
