The Desert Pines Jaguars on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Coronado Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Desert Pines will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Coronado is ranked fourth).
Last Saturday, Desert Pines came up short against Legacy and fell 62-52.
Meanwhile, Coronado came tearing into Monday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 74-70 W over Silverado. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coronado to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josiah Cunningham, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jonny Collins, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
Desert Pines' loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Coronado, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
Desert Pines won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, slipping by Coronado 65-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Pines since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
