Baseball Recap: Somerville's Losing Streak Snapped at 11 Games

Somerville came into Friday's contest having lost 11 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the BVCHEA HomeSchool Mustangs with a sharp 13-3 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Yeguas have posted since April 5, 2024.

Kyle 'KB' Brooks made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Brooks was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four).

In other batting news, Gage Tuck and Jayden Young did most of the damage at the plate: Tuck scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Young scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Reggie Shivers, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Somerville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as BVCHEA HomeSchool only posted an OBP of .400.

Somerville's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for BVCHEA HomeSchool, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somerville will head out to challenge Brenham at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brenham's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Somerville's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for BVCHEA HomeSchool, they are taking a road trip to square off against Richards at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
