The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave will face off against the Union County Fightin' Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
P.K. Yonge not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th. Everything went their way against Cedar Key as P.K. Yonge made off with an 11-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Blue Wave in their matchups with the Sharks: they've now won six in a row.
Makenzie Radford was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alison Sanetz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
P.K. Yonge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Union County and Dixie County, and Union County kept the tradition alive. Union County blew past Dixie County 18-7 last Tuesday. The Fightin' Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Shyla Crowe spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Union County got a massive performance out of Emma Handley, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. With that strong performance, Handley is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Leanne Dicks was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Union County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. P.K. Yonge's win bumped their record up to 6-8.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. P.K. Yonge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Union County struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
P.K. Yonge might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Union County in their previous meeting on March 13th. Will P.K. Yonge have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
