Eastlake and Carlsbad face off this Friday at 7:00 PM to determine whose season will come to a close. Eastlake is currently on a four-game winning streak and looking to extend its dominance.
Eastlake kept its home record unblemished after another positive outing on its own turf. Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, it beat Rancho Bernardo 21 - 16 last week. One of the main ringleaders for Eastlake was junior Parker Merrifield, who rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown. Merrifield has now scored at least one TD in the past four consecutive games. Additional support came from junior Joshua McCurty, a defensive powerhouse who racked up 22 tackles.
As for Carlsbad, it was able to grind out a solid victory over Cathedral Catholic last week, winning 38 - 28. No one had a larger role in the success than sophomore Noah Vella, who brought his A game into the contest. He earned one touchdown and 102 yards rushing the ball. This sound performance was nothing new for Vella, who has been a rock for Carlsbad in the past three games.
Their wins bumped Eastlake to 9-2 and Carlsbad to 6-5. We'll find out on Friday which team can carry over its success and which team inevitably falls when Eastlake and Carlsbad clash.
