The Cactus Cobras had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 61-48 win over Peoria. Given Cactus' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Peoria is ranked 199th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cactus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyler Hutton, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Hutton hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Bradey Henige, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 20 rebounds.
Peoria's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nehemiah Ward, who scored 13 points along with two steals, and Amir Brown who scored 11 points.
Cactus pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.9 points per game. As for Peoria, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
Cactus will be playing in front of their home fans against Deer Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Peoria on the road again on Thursday and play against Goldwater at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Goldwater is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
