Millville is 8-2 against Neumann Regional Academy since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Quakers will head out on the road to face off against the Golden Knights at 4:30 p.m. Millville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Millville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Montgomery, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Quakers fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 16-14 on Tuesday. The Quakers have struggled against the Red Raiders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Dylan Brokenshire was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Shane Johnson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Neumann Regional Academy). They put the hurt on Sullivan County with a sharp 27-11 win on Tuesday. Considering the Golden Knights have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Andrew Walter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Walter was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Neumann Regional Academy let Angelo Birch and Avery Taddeo run wild. Birch got on base in all six of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Taddeo got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and four RBI. That's the most runs Birch has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nolan Fagnano, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Neumann Regional Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory (which was Neumann Regional Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Millville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Millville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .485. However, it's not like Neumann Regional Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Millville was able to grind out a solid victory over Neumann Regional Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Quakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
