On Friday, the Forge Christian Fury faced the Colorado Academy Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Forge Christian had just enough and edged Colorado Academy out 57-54. Winning may never get old, but Forge Christian sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Forge Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Clark, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Clark has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Hovis, who scored 15 points.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Clyde Love, who scored 18 points. Love continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jason Bratis, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Forge Christian pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Colorado Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Forge Christian will challenge Manual at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Manual has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 617 points over their last eight matches. As for Colorado Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Eagle Ridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eagle Ridge Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Colorado Academy is ranked tenth).
