The Northeast Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They slipped by Largo 76-75. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Northeast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luis Ruiz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dominic Brown, who scored 17 points along with four steals.
Largo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jeremy Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Colby Kepler was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Even though they lost, Largo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Northeast's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Largo, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Northeast will head out on the road to square off against Gibbs at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Gibbs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday. As for Largo, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pinellas Park at 7:30 p.m. Pinellas Park is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
