The Durham Academy Cavaliers lost against the Ravenscroft Ravens back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Durham Academy took a hard 47-29 fall against Ravenscroft. While losing is never fun, Durham Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while Ravenscroft is ranked 91st).
Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rashyia "Shy" Williams, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Williams hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarra Abdelbarr, who scored nine points.
Ravenscroft's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellie Cronin, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cronin has scored at least a third of Ravenscroft's points. Another player making a difference was Zoe Adams, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Durham Academy and nudges their season record down to 10-16. As for Ravenscroft, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-8.
Durham Academy will head out on the road to face off against Charlotte Latin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ravenscroft, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Christian on Thursday. The timing is sure in Ravenscroft's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Charlotte Christian has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
