Basketball Recap: Shea Comes Up Short

On Wednesday, the Shea Raiders ended up a good deal behind the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals and lost 61-44.

When it comes to explaining why Shea lost, don't look at Tiyara Gonzalez. Despite the final result, she went 9 of 20 on her way to 19 points and three steals. Gonzalez's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zareia Colome, who posted nine points.

St. Mary Academy-Bay View's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Forbes, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Qiana Sumner, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 20 boards.

Shea's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shea will head out to square off against Classical at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Shea is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, they will venture away from home to face off against St. Raphael Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
