Baseball Recap: Milford Sets Scoring Season-High Against Westborough

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Milford). They had just enough and edged out the Westborough Rangers 9-8. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Scarlet Hawks as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Derek Marcolini and Kyle Morin did most of the damage at the plate: Marcolini went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Morin went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those runs were Marcolini's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tanner Longacre, who earned two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Milford's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Westborough, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milford will challenge Mansfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Scarlet Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Westborough, they will square off against St. John's at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rangers surely won't give up without a fight.
