Softball Recap: Hough Snags 12th Victory in Last 13 Games

Hough had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Chambers on Wednesday. The Huskies' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won 11 contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Aubrey Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Olivia Bechtel was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Seanna Shivers, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Hough has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chambers, they dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hough will face off against West Mecklenburg at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Chambers, they will square off against Harding University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
