Johnsonburg had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-6 to make it nine. They lost 11-5 to the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Wednesday.
Johnsonburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jace Zimmerman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that Zimmerman has brought in this season.
As for DuBois Central Catholic, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On DuBois Central Catholic's side, Carter Himes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Himes has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Evan Burton was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kellan Hoover, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Johnsonburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 loss against Elk County Catholic on the 13th. As for DuBois Central Catholic, they have also already played their next matchup, a 17-7 win against Kane on the 13th.
