Harrells Christian Academy extended the longest winning streak in NCISAA Big East this week by beating Fayetteville Christian, 89-46. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Harrells Christian Academy moved up to 215 from 247 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Brian Aldridge's team was able to make move up by topping Fayetteville Christian 89-46.
North Raleigh Christian Academy's dynamic duo of John Cook and Daniel Rose proved tough for Wake Christian Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cook threw for 165 yards and five touchdowns and Rose had 70 yards receiving. Charlie Davisson helped North Raleigh Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching five balls for 56 yards.
Jeff Gemmell made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Knights defeated the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-1 junior recorded one fumble and grabbed two sacks.
Russell Washington was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 291 yards as the Crusaders bested Wake Christian Academy. Channing Kelly also contributed to the rushing game with 243 yards on the ground.
Rich Landis' team's Cook and Davisson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading NCISAA Big East in both passing and receiving yards. Cook has thrown for 1835 yards this season, while Davisson, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 32 catches for 679 yards. Washington from Harrells Christian Academy leads the league in rushing with 1643 yards.
Going into this week's game against Fayetteville Christian, the Knights' Cook needs 165 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
The Crusaders' Kelly Nelms needs only 82 yards against Ravenscroft next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Nelms has rushed for 918 yards on 81 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Fayetteville Christian takes on North Raleigh Christian Academy. As it stands, Fayetteville Christian is in third, while the Knights are in first.
