Paint Valley and Westfall are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Bearcats will face off against the Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Paint Valley has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight losses, while Westfall will come in with three straight wins.
Paint Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Unioto, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bearcats fell just short of the Shermans by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Bearcats were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westfall). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Madison Plains a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Rick Hanley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Cash Conrad was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Adams, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs.
Westfall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison Plains only posted an OBP of .167.
Westfall's record now sits at 8-4. As for Paint Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Paint Valley might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Westfall when the teams last played on April 8th. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
