Gage McCarty was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Barnes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Cosby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oakdale, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Scott on Thursday as they made off with a 17-2 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.
Bryson Cox made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Oakdale's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-1 (and 7-11 when he doesn't). Cox was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Scott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Oakdale is 7-2 when Scott posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Tilson, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cosby's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-18. As for Oakdale, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
Cosby suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Oakdale in their previous matchup on Friday. Can Cosby avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
