Basketball Game Preview: Telfair County Trojans vs. Treutlen Vikings

The Telfair County Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Treutlen Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Telfair County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

While Telfair County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Hawkinsville on Tuesday as Telfair County made off with a 61-40 win. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Red Devils are ranked 437th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Passion Clay was her usual excellent self, putting up 16 points along with five assists and four steals. That's the most assists she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Kristiany Jones, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Telfair County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Treutlen played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Wilcox County, falling 56-35. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Treutlen now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Telfair County, their record now sits at 9-1.

Things could have been worse for Telfair County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-44 loss to Treutlen when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Telfair County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
