Savanna Gumowski made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gumowski was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Addison Kennedy was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adria Garcia, who scored four runs and stole six bases while going 3-for-4.
Valley Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Apollo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Boulder Creek, falling 15-0.
Apollo's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Valley Vista, their record is now 4-8.
Apollo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Valley Vista has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .556. It's a different story for Apollo, though, as they've only averaged .296. Will they be able to contain Valley Vista's hitters?
Valley Vista might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Apollo in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can Valley Vista avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
