Edcouch-Elsa barely beat Donna the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Donna Redskins a 14-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Yellowjackets have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mila Pedraza and Melody Soto were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Pedraza pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Soto tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Pedraza has allowed since back in February. At the plate, Pedraza scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while Soto scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-3. Soto has been hot recently, having also posted at least one triple the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Christa Lopez was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Jasmine Loredo was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Edcouch-Elsa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Donna only posted an OBP of .188.
With the victory, Edcouch-Elsa broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-3. As for Donna, they dropped their record down to 2-11-1 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Looking ahead, Edcouch-Elsa will welcome Porter at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Edcouch-Elsa's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Porter's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Donna, they will venture away from home to square off against Lopez at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Donna has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
