The Scott Skyhawks were the 66-65 winner over the Wayne Pioneers when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Scott received a tough blow on Monday as they fell 66-51 to Wayne.
Wayne got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ronnie Staley out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Staley scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Meddings, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Scott dropped their record down to 6-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Wayne, their win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-10.
Scott will square off against Liberty at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Scott likes a good challenge. As for Wayne, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hoover at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Wayne is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season.
